About KWV
Kabelwerke Villingen has been developing and producing high-quality cables and lines for a number of technical applications for decades. As a medium-sized company with in-house design and manufacturing facilities, we create solutions subject to inspections from material selection to final testing.
Our strength is in combining experience, technical expertise, and flexible production processes. We manufacture both standard cables and custom-designed special constructions, customised for the operating conditions at hand. We are a partner that implements technical requirements in a verifiable manner with reliable procedures, transparent processes, and a clear commitment to quality.

Our vision
We strive to develop cables that simply work in practice: durable, precisely manufactured, and technically reduced to the essentials. Our vision is to create cables that can sustainably withstand the demands of modern industrial, medical, and automation processes while also being economically viable to manufacture.
Working at Kabelwerke Villingen
Kabelwerke Villingen offers a structured working environment with short paths to decision and flat hierarchies. Thorough onboarding and individual support in further training help new employees find their footing. Flexible working hours, the option of working from home, and pay in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, holiday and Christmas bonuses are matters of course for us, as are our health promotion programs such as company bikes and Hansefit.
In addition to this, we rely on team spirit. Joint excursions, hikes, and an annual Christmas party strengthen interaction while creating a pleasant working atmosphere. Our location in the Black Forest offers a huge number of varied leisure activities and a high quality of life as well. Learn more and check our current vacancies on our careers page.
Sustainability & resources
Sustainability numbers amongst our company’s core principles. We keep on working to use energy more efficiently, reduce emissions, and integrate renewable energy sources more effectively. This includes, amongst other things, conversion to LED technology, modernisation of our compressed air and heating systems, and planning to expand our on-site power generation through photovoltaics.
Our long-term goal is a significant reduction of our energy consumption while completely replacing gas by 2035. Measures such as heat pump technology, building optimisation, and more efficient production processes are fundamental measures in this context. To us, sustainability is an ongoing task that strengthens our location and gradually reduces our environmental impact.
Safety & quality
Our production is based on modern laboratory technology and high-precision manufacturing equipment. All cables are developed and manufactured at our Villingen site. Controlled processes and tested materials ensure that high durability, safety, and environmental compatibility standards are met.
Every cable must be safe to manufacture, use, and recycle or dispose of properly at the end of its lifetime. Kabelwerke Villingen is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 and 14001 and holds a number of CSA and UL approvals. These standards ensure that our products consistently meet technical and legal requirements.
History
The company’s history has seen a number of development stages since 1952 until it became what Kabelwerke Villingen GmbH is today. Focusing on in-house manufacturing and continuous capacity and site expansions, it has kept on working to expand its production area. Repeated modernisations ensure stable and technically reliable operations now just as they always have.
The Elektro-Isolierwerke company was founded with essential participation of three companies:
- Kraftwerke St. Blasien AG
- Scherb & Schwer KG
- SABA-Werke
1952
Elektro-Isolierwerke Schwarzwald AG was officially entered in the commercial register on 5 April 1952, launching our company’s history in production of insulation material and cables in the Black Forest.
1987
Mannheimer Kabel- und Lackdrahtfabriken acquired a majority stake in EIW in 1987, initially transferring the majority shareholding to a subsidiary of Brown & Boveri Cie. (BBC).
1988
The merger of BBC and the Swedish company ASEA led to the formation of the electrical engineering group ABB. EIW became a group company, subsequently operating as ABB Elektro-Isolierwerke GmbH.
1998
1998 saw the sale of EIW to Belden Wire & Cable, and a name change to Belden-EIW GmbH.
2004
The company as we know it today started out in 2004, when Belden-EIW became KWV Kabelwerke Villingen GmbH. A new era commenced, focusing on in-house cable production and customised cable solutions “made in Germany”.
2018
KWV expanded its production capacity in 2018 to strengthen manufacturing. This has become the basis for further growth.
2023
A number of facilities at the Villingen site were modernised in 2023. Technical modifications to optimise processes, increase energy efficiency, and further strengthen production for future requirements were made.
